To all sec 1s,

Please remember that you all need to hand in the full amount of $25 for the sales of the carnival ticket to hui ling on the meeting on Tuesday, regardless of whether you have sold all. I understand that it is hard to sell the tickets, but please continue to work hard as we are doing this for our unit – the more tickets we sell, the more points we get for our unit. Also, Girl Guide is an organization not government funded like NCC or NPCC. We need to raise fund ourselves. Let’s all do our part to help Girl Guide as we are part of this organization =) if you have not finish selling yet, you will have to pay the $25 yourself first and continue selling afterwards. Do this for our unit and organization, you can do it!!! Through this you will learn to be more outspoken and be more courageous (you need courage to ask people if they want to buy the tickets). I hope that you all could learn something out of this. There is a lot of learning opportunities in guiding, so just do your best and learn from it =)

From your company leader,

KOH YEE SI =D

Dearest Guides,
What i am going to say would probably be what many of your graduating seniors would be thinking too... We know that many of you would be upset that we would be leaving, and we know that many of you cannot bear to let us go... So i have typed out a letter to those who are feeling down and sad because of our graduation..

A little something on what many of us has experienced and learned throughout our 4 /5 years as a Girl Guide in Ngee Ann... Through this guiding experience, many of us have learnt to step out of the shell that we were used to hiding in when we were young. We have become more mature, independent and confident ladies. Through the years in guides, many of us have found the best of friends in some people and have forged wonderful friendships with one another. Some have created groups or "families" together. We have learnt many skills and done many wonderful things together. Although many of us are not very close, but we are all guides, sisters, friends!

We know that some of you would be upset over us leaving, but think about this, if we do not step down, how will you step up to be a future leader? Things happen for a reason. All of you have to stay and be strong especially the Sec3s! You WILL be future leaders who will lead the company in the years to come. All we hope for is that you will put what we have taught you into good use. Do us proud! Do the school proud! Show everybody that we can make a difference! Remember the caption on your Thinking Day patch? "TOGETHER we CAN make a difference" Stay united! Carry on the guiding spirit!

Everyone would be upset when someone close to you is leaving! It is human nature to cry when this happens. But please let the time we have left with all of you be a fun and enjoyable one! (Before all of us, the graduating seniors, hit the books to prepare for our major exam!) Do not worry, we WILL come back for visits! We would all miss you too! You have to let go of the old to let the new come! Yes some of you may be sad, but this is just how life is. ALL of you ARE future leaders! It is time for you, the Sec3s, to show us what you are capable of! Impart on the younger ones the knowledge you have gained from us.. Carry on and make the company a united one!

Believe in yourself! You CAN make a difference! Have confidence that you would do well.. Occasionally when the seniors are free, we will come for visits! It is not only you, but us, we will also miss you dearly! All of you have shown all of us the seniors how enjoyable and fun guides is! Carry on with that spirit and guides will carry on to be a wonderful CCA for the years to come! We will always be there for you! Trust in yourself, step up to the position. All the Best!

Let us all spend the approximately one month happily together and not sad and gloomy. Let us the seniors leave with wonderful memories of guides in a happy way!

Love,
Your Sister Guide,
HuiShan

Hihi guides,

Woah, our camp is just tmr, are you all excited?! (And you all say…) “YES!!!”

hahaha, I am just being lame, anyway just want to tell you all that this camp is compulsory. Unless you have valid reason, you are expected to come. We will be completing a lot of badges and clauses during the camp. Those who are absent would miss out everything and it would be hard to catch up.

I know that the camping list is very long, but you all must bring all required items, as you all would not be able to complete certain clauses or badges just because of something you did not bring. Bringing all the camp items is also about responsibility. Please don’t disappoint me.

Note that this is a training camp and not a leisure camp. You all are not allowed to bring tibits and electronic devices except for your handphone and torchlight. Please also remember to bring your consent form, signed.

Before you all come for the camp, please go and read up on your Guides hand book, pg 188 on enjoying outdoor (especially to the sec 1s =))

If you are a vegetarian, please inform Cheryl or jia hui. For Muslims, you all don’t need to worry, as the food will be halal.

Tmr, when you all report to school in the morning, you all can put your bag pack at the old Guides room, the area near the NE corner. Sybil and I will be waiting from 7.00 am onwards and we will only wait until 7.25 pm. After that the room will be locked and I am afraid you will need to bring the bag all along with you until we fall in at night.

10.40 pm, after the 15 hour challenge, meet me at the NE corner and we will start our camp. BE PUNTUAL. Any attire is fine (but must be school based, btw any guides related shirt is counted as school based shirt =) )

Can’t wait to see all of you for the camp!!!

Your company leader,

KOH YEE SI =D

Oh ya, bring jacket!!! (it will be cold at night =))

Due many questions asked we will answer some of the FAQs!

Q: What is a Manito present?
A: Basically Manito is just like being a secret santa! At the start of the camp, we will all randomly pull out names from a container or hat, then we will basically be the secret santa of that person! At the end of the camp, we will go around giving the presents to our Manito and revealing who your manito / secret santa is!

Q: What is covered shoes?
A: Basically these are shoes that cover your feet! Ok like school shoes or sport shoes!

Q: What is school based shirts?
A: These are shirts such as your PE shirts, class jerseys or orientation shirts! As long it sort of represents the school its fine.

Q: What kind of shorts to bring?
A: It does not necessarily have to be school pe shorts, it may be sports shorts such as FBTs!

Any other questions?

Message from Yee Si:

This meeting is compulsory, and very very important.

We are having an audition-test next Tuesday.

We got more vacancy for the founder’s day parade now. We need a contingent of 21, 4 flag bearers, 1 MC (Sybil) and 1 commander (Yee Si- me, haha). In other words we need more people now. And next Tuesday, we will have the audition-test to determine who’s in and who’s out.

1 piece of good news, this year we are going for the National Day Parade!!! !!!! Not the one in school, but the NATIONAL one =) and next Tuesday will be the audition, we will chose the best of five. Sadly this opportunity is not open to those graduating sec 4s.

Guides, all of you must train hard ok =)

For those involved in the founder’s day parade, please make sure that you all come for all the trainings. If there are no changes, these should be the dates: 11/3, 12/3 and 18/3. Hope that this will give all of you ample time to change your tuition dates etc =)

For the audition-test, please note that the marking scheme is not based on level, that’s means I will not necessary chose all the older guides, I will chose base on how good you are, I will tell you all more about the marking scheme on Tuesday.

Failure to turn up for Tuesday meeting without a valid reason will result in automatic withdrawal from the audition-test.

You all can ask the older guides for help on foot drill =) and PLs and PSs, please remember what i said on initiatives. Please also remind those that you think would forget to check the Guides Blog=) be punctual as we only have 1 hour.

Ok, that’s all!

Your CL,

KOH YEE SI =D
