COOKIES

Hey guides, for those who have not collect their guides cookie, please go to the befrienders room at 12 tomorrow. For those who wants more order is to find Mrs Wee at the store room near the Befrienders room at 12.15 with the money READY.

I think that service learning is really meaningful as it helps develop our many aspects of life through community activities,that we can learn from a lot. We can contribute to the community's needs and yet, learn and develop our characteristics and skills at the same time. For example, by helping someone in need, we actually make a difference in their lives and ours too. Conducting service learning also gives us a chance to experience a priceless once in a lifetime experience. So, in conclusion, I think that service learning is a very meaningful activity, and we should contribute to it whenever we have the chance to.

I think service-learning means helping people in many ways. For example, helping orphans get back their confidence and pride or help them step out of their trauma. We can contribute also a lot to the world just by showing our care.

Service learning is something that allows people to contribute to the society. Service learning lets us to enrich ourselves in meaningful community involvement and helps foster civic responsibility. Through service learning, we can learn more and understand the needs of the community better. Thus, we can stand out to help people who are not as fortunate as us or have physical disadvantages. This allows us to put ourselves in the shoes of those that are less fortunate and we also can become more responsible towards the community. Service learning is important as it allows us to give back to the community.

Service is important as we contribute to the society and help the people around us. By helping the less fortunate we also learn new things. Through service we make others feel happier. It is a very meaningful activity because we are living in such a safe country so we should help others live in the same condition as us.

Service to me means an act of helpful activity. The people serving will learnt that the community needs their help and by helping the community, they can also learnt some life skills like how to solve the same problem when they face it in the future. I think that serving can make a person more optimistic, more cheerful when they see that their actions can make or change another person’s life into a brighter one.

All guides is to submit a service- learning Projects write-up by 22 Oct 09.

We need to conduct 5 Service Learning Activities right after the exams, thus, we will choose the good projects and relatively simple ones to proceed first and work on the other projects that require improvements.

No matter what, all guides must be involved in Service-learning, sooner or later. Thus the teachers are expecting the sec 2s and 3s to comeup with good projects first.

1. All guides must surf the following website

and learn what service learning is all about under headings such as Projects,newsletter, a b c s of Service learning, FAQs etc

2. Understand how we involve WELFARE or NON-PROFIT organizations on their causes. Understand how we serve their needs. Understand the learning that you will experience.

3. WELFARE organizations are also listed in the website.

4. NON-PROFIT organization includes mosque, churches etc...

5. If you want to provide services e.g. making teaching aids for toddlers at the mosque, church etc...think and choose those that are near to Tampines so that it would be nearerto your homes.

6. Random grouping of NOT MORE THAN 4 GIRLS is allowed as long as the members in each group has similar interests.
But members of the groups MUST BE IN SAME LEVEL ie allsec 1s only in one group.
*****After searching the net, you are to write a simple reflection of 50 to 100 words about what service means to them.
Please send your reflection to either Seok Kee, Su Chi or Yu Xuan as it has to be posted on the Guides blog.
